Minnesota State Tax Payment Plan
The Minnesota Department of Revenue will consider your request for a payment agreement if you are unable to pay your debt all at once and your debt is past due. If your debt is not past due, you must wait until on or after the due date before you can submit a request.
To apply for a payment agreement, you will need to do the following:
• Visit the Minnesota Payment Plan Agreement System and follow the steps listed. To use the system, you will need a copy of your bill. If you do not have your bill available, you can call the Collection Division at 651-556-3003 or 1-800-657-3909 or send an email to [email protected].
If the state agrees to your request, you will receive a formal payment agreement that outlines the amount you owe, as well as the specific payment terms, and the length and ending date of the agreement. Pay careful attention to the details because there are times when the state will propose a different payment schedule or amount than the one you indicated would work for you. $50 will be added to the amount you owe as a new payment agreement set up fee if your agreement is approved.
After a payment agreement has been established, you will not be able to make changes to the agreement. However, the Minnesota Department of Revenue does have the ability to cancel your existing agreement and devise another one if it is in the state’s best interest. If you have any additional questions, you can contact the Collections Department at 651-556-3003 or 1-800-657-3909 Monday – Friday from 8 am until 4:30 pm.
