Nebraska State Tax Payment Plan

The Nebraska Department of Revenue offers payment plan options if you are unable to pay off the entire amount you owe when you file your taxes. They do not specifically state whether a program is available for back taxes. Instead, they ask that you call the Taxpayer Assistance line at 1-800-742-7474 or 402-471-5729 to discuss your situation.

Your two payment plan options when you cannot include your tax liability with your tax return include:

• If you can pay off the entire debt within 90 days, there are no forms to fill out. Simply go to the department’s home page and choose Make a Payment for Individuals. Your payments must be made every 30 days in equal amounts.

• If you cannot pay off the entire amount within 90 days, you will need to contact the department at 1-800-742-7474 and make them aware of the situation. (In this case, you must agree to make your payments through an Electronic Funds Transfer.) Then Complete Form 27D, Payment and Authorization Agreement and mail it to the address listed on the bottom of page 1. The department will respond with an approval or denial. If approved, your payments will be withdrawn as you scheduled on Form 27D.

If you are uncertain about what payment option is best for you or you have any further questions, you can contact the Taxpayer Assistance line at 1-800-742-7474 or 402-471-5729.
