New Jersey State Tax Payment Plan

New Jersey State Tax Payment Plan

The New Jersey Division of Taxation allows residents to enter into deferred (installment) payment plans. Payment plans typically last from 3 to 36 months, although you can request a longer period if needed if there are extraordinary circumstances. Keep in mind that interest will continue to accrue until the liability has been paid in full.

To apply for a deferred payment plan, you will need to do the following:

  • Visit the Division of Taxation’s Deferred Payment Plan page. Read through the page in its entirely and make sure you understand all of the guidelines listed. At the bottom of the page, you must click Agree before you can continue.
  •  Complete the Deferred Payment Control Request Form and mail it to the address listed in the bottom right side corner of the page.
  •  Complete the Responsible Person Acknowledgement and Judgement Authorization and include it with your request form.

The department will contact you with a decision, though they do not provide a timeframe regarding when you can expect a response. If you have any questions, determine which Important Number is related and call it directly. You can also call the Main Customer Service Center at 609-292-6400.
